GRASS, ROOT AND SKY LETTERS
The lower case, small letters, or smaller alphabet have different shapes and they positioned differently when we write on the four-lined paper. Kids of Pre-School classes are shown how to differentiate between them according to their shape and position on the four lines by giving separate names to similar shapes and positions of the letters.
In order to aware of the concept of the position of writing the alphabet on four lined paper, we use the name as Grass Letters, Sky Letters Root Letters as per the category.
The children are introduced to the proper placement of alphabets using four lines. We use four lines for writing practice for kids so in the future they place alphabet in the proper place. In Pakistan we do this practice for both Urdu & English Writing from Class Playgroup to Class Four.
Letters that we write exactly between the two middle lines, for example, a,c,e,i,m,n,o,r,s,u,v,w,x,z are known as the grass letters.
Letters that we write upper three lines & having a stem that goes up to the line are called sky letters, for example, b,d,f,h,k,l,t are known as the sky letters.
Letters that we write on lower three lines & having a stem that goes down to the line at the bottom, for example, g,j,p,q,y are known as root letters.
